We hiked 10 miles into Havasu Falls in Arizona. Got our camp all set up and had water boiling for dinner on top of the table. Well, the table was not balanced. Jeff came to sit by me at the table and the table tipped and the boiling water went all over Jeff. I'm not sure how it missed me, I was sitting right next to him on his right side where he got burned. Anyway he got 2nd degree burns on most of his right arm and a big section of his right thigh. Other people in the group have more nasty pics I'll probably post later.
As soon as it happened we had Jeff jump in the river to cool the burn off. The water was REALLY COLD. So when he got done with that we had to watch him for hypothermia.

While the other people in the group went hiking the next day, Jeff and I hiked back to the village to the little medical clinic they have there. Because Jeff wasn't indian they didn't really do anything for him. They gave him a pair of tweezers and some gauze and told him to go sit in the river and pull away all the dead skin. So that's what we did for most of Saturday.Instead of hiking out, Jeff had to pay for a helicopter ride out of the canyon. I think he enjoyed the ride, but not so much the cost.
We decided it would be best if we stopped at an Urgent care center to have them clean it up and bandage it for him when we got out of the canyon so we stopped in Kingman, AZ and had a doctor look at it. He gave him a prescription for an antibiotic and after waiting forever to get it filled, we were on our way to Vegas to go eat at Margaritaville for one of our friend's birthday.
As we were crossing Hoover Dam, Jeff all of a sudden starts itching like crazy. He was having an allergic reaction to the medication. He had hives all over him and his throat was starting to swell up, so we stopped in the next town, Boulder, NV and went to the emergency room.
They made Jeff stay there for about two hours until all the allergy symptoms were gone. So it wasn't the best vacation Jeff has ever taken. He is home and all is well now.
This is just a pic of what the burn looked like by the time he got to the hospital.Oh, by the way, just as we were pulling into IF Jeff's brother called me saying that his wife's nieces, sister's cousin was one of the girls on the trip with us. So the story went through a long line of people but eventually got to Jeff's brother before we were even home. Of course the story he heard was much more interesting than the actual story. He had heard that something really bad had happened to Jeff and that he had to be life flighted out of the canyon......He couldn't get a hold of Jeff on his phone so he was calling mine to find out what was going on.
